MarDATA Project Week "Digital Twin Cabo Verde"
Mid-March, twelve MarDATA doctoral researchers met with WASCAL master students in Mindelo Cabo Verde, to jointly develop solutions to increase the value of marinedata for local stakeholders and the scientific community.
The Cape Verde Islands are not only known for their wild coasts and fascinating underwater world, but also for their important ecosystem, which is nourished by the coastal upwelling off West Africa. To explore the potential of this rich marine data, the Helmholtz School for Marine Data Science (MarDATA) organised a hackathon on São Vicente. Twelve MarDATA PhD students met with WASCAL master students to jointly develop solutions to increase the value of this data for local stakeholders and the scientific community. The teams were divided into three challenges: Improving a fishing app, integrating marine and atmospheric data, and creating a concept for a potential digital twin of the ocean around Cabo Verde.
We have summarised the results of this exciting project week in a short travelogue. You can find it here: LINK
